An evening to celebrate the coming of spring and Nowruz with cool blues and deep grooves to put the powerful voices of Iranian women artists at the fore with Rana Farhan and Raha Javanfar.

New York-based artist Rana Farhan sings in a cool bluesy style that transcends time and erases all borders, wowing listeners worldwide. With each new release Rana redefines a genre that seems to be hers alone. Her unique fusion of classical Persian poetry with contemporary jazz and blues has won audiences worldwide.

Rana left Iran after graduating from Tehran University and she soon found herself in New York City, exploring her talents and soaking in the sounds and music of Manhattan, including the rich cultural district of Harlem where she discovered her love of jazz.


Born in Iran, raised and living in Toronto, Raha is a multifaceted artist. As lighting designer, she has worked on numerous productions in Toronto.

As projections designer, she has toured the world with Tafelmusik.
A multi-instrumentalist, Raha performs regularly at Soulpepper and as frontwoman and singer/bassist of her blues/R&B band, Bad Luck Woman & Her Misfortunes, as well as in numerous other bands. Raha has sat on juries for the Dora Awards, FACTOR, and the OAC. She was co-recipient of the Siminovitch Protege Award, and is an active Arts Advocate and Ambassador for Music Canada.
